DO:
- Protect their head — cushion it with something soft
- Move dangerous objects away from them
- Time the seizure — note when it started
- Stay with them until fully recovered
DO NOT:
- Restrain them — let the seizure happen
- Put anything in their mouth — they won't swallow their tongue
- Move them — unless they're in danger
- Give food or drink until fully alert
When it stops:
- Put them on their side (recovery position)
- Check they're breathing
- Stay calm and reassure them — they may be confused
Call 999 if:
- It's their first seizure
- It lasts more than 5 minutes
- They don't regain consciousness
- They have another seizure soon after
- They're injured, pregnant, or diabetic
- They're in water
- You're not sure
Most seizures stop within 2-3 minutes. Stay calm — your calm helps them.
